Date Announced: 03 May 2012 LBT’s new ultra-compatible (UC) LED simplifies triac dimming driver selectionVancouver, B.C., -– Light-Based Technologies (LBT), a leading developer of intelligent power and control electronics for solid state lighting (SSL), today announced the release of its ultra-compatible deep dimming LED Driver at Lightfair International 2012.The UC LED Driver is targeted at North American and Japanese lighting fixture manufacturers. Dimmer compatibility is a significant challenge in both retrofit and new build SSL applications because of the wide variation seen in conventional triac dimmers. LBT’s advanced firmware algorithms ensure industry leading compatibility across the entire range of triac dimmers.“Lighting manufacturers, lighting designers and specifiers have been clear on the need for a single driver solution that was truly capable of working with a wide range of triac dimmers and that would minimize issues during installation. That’s exactly what we’re providing with our UC LED driver.” said Art Aylesworth, CEO at LBT. “Recent field trials have proven that our solution, built on our proprietary IC and firmware platform, allows our customers to meet current dimming and compatibility expectations while allowing for the rapidly changing possibilities in SSL.”Deep dimming, to 1% and below, is very important due to the human eye’s perception of 1% power output as 10% light output. Specified at 25W, with a selectable 700mA or 1000mA constant current output, LBT’s UC LED driver delivers unsurpassed deep dimming quality and dimmer compatibility for SSL fixtures. The UC LED driver delivers this deep dimming capability without the flicker and pops associated with other solutions. The selectable drive currents and corresponding forward voltages are optimized for use with the Xicato XSM™ line of LED light modules. “The dimming performance and compatibility of the LBT UC LED driver are consistent with the high quality of light the Xicato modules deliver,” says Mark Pugh, Xicato’s President, “and we expect that our OEMs will appreciate a driver solution that’s easy to spec and provides great flexibility.”The UC LED Driver is built on LBT’s proprietary LB4 LED Controller IC and firmware enabled platform. LBT’s firmware approach enables faster and more cost effective integration of increasingly complex features and functionality. The UC LED driver and its underlying technology will be on display in LBT’s booth (#6051) and in several lighting OEM partner booths at Lightfair® International 2012 running May 9th to the 11th in Las Vegas. Evaluation samples are now available.About Light-Based Technologies (LBT)Light-Based Technologies (LBT) develops intelligent power and control electronics that enable and optimize solid state lighting.
