Noribachi and Facility Solutions Group improve lighting technology at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

April 17, 2012
Date Announced: 17 Apr 2012 Noribachi, leading innovator of smart energy LED and solar products, recently partnered with Facility Solutions Group and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA), located outside of Austin, Texas, to complete a successful retrofit of the airport’s concourse lighting. This project marks Noribachi’s third successful airport LED lighting retrofit and demonstrates Noribachi’s particular ability to provide crucial lighting solutions to the air transportation industry in airport facilities that demand lighting of the highest quality and reliability. Austin-Bergstrom, or ABIA, has, since its commercial inception in 1999, devoted itself to maintaining an environmentally responsible facility. In recognition of these efforts the FAA Southwest Region recognized ABIA with the Environmental Achievement award in its first year of operation. ABIA was introduced to Noribachi LED lighting through FSG’s outreach efforts and with a keen eye towards the future, tested Noribachi’s LED illumination products in a pilot installation earlier this year. After seeing the incredible difference of Noribachi LED bulb illumination compared with their previous metal halide bulbs the airport upgraded the concourse lighting that spanned across their terminals, security areas and baggage claims.ABIA’s old lights, 1000W metal halides, had demanded an incredible amount of energy to operate and have merely one-fifth the lifetime of LED bulbs, making their replacement a maintenance issue due to accessibility. In critical areas such as security areas, ABIA demanded a lamp that could handle extensive full time use. Metal halides, when run under such demanding conditions generate an incredible amount of wasted energy in the form of heat. ABIA’s new Noribachi LED bulbs deliver a brighter, longer lasting light devoid of toxic chemicals, and are so much more efficient at devoting their operational energy to illumination they require only 306W and operate more than 150˚ F cooler. “We were very pleased with the performance of the Noribachi LED retrofit,” says James Parker, Project Manager for Austin Energy’s Energy Efficiency Services. “We increased light levels significantly while reducing the lighting load from 1,080 watts to 306 watts – a 72% reduction in energy use. We have also virtually eliminated the maintenance costs of a very difficult-to-maintain fixture. The project’s payback period is 3.6 years, and that doesn’t include any maintenance cost savings calculations.” “The ABIA installation is a great example of Noribachi’s ability to retrofit even the brightest lighting demands. No one else can match the illumination of 1000W lighting with LED bulbs with the same degree of excellence in quality and performance as Noribachi,” says Luke Sutton, VP of Manufacturing at Noribachi.
