SELC are celebrating their 30 year anniversary and also the appointment of new CEO Paul Carey (as of the 25th June 2012). Paul has over thirty years of experience in the lighting market and brings a wealth of experience, business acumen and leadership to the company. Paul’s depth of knowledge in the lighting industry combined with SELC’s renowned high quality products will enable SELC to grow its market share both in the UK and beyond through an increased product range and strategic acquisition. In 1982 Seán Noone registered the company SELC Ireland Limited and transformed the street lighting industry. Over the last thirty years SELC has become known for quality, innovation, cutting edge technology and smart solutions. SELC have led the field delivering the world’s most reliable Photocells, Electronic Ballasts and Solar Time Clocks as well as Powerline & Wireless Central Monitoring Systems.Reflecting on thirty years of success and looking ahead to the future, the company’s Founder & President, Seán Noone, had this to say, “Since I first founded the company in 1982, we have helped redefine the meaning of street lighting. From pioneering the global expansion of SMART dimmable electronic ballasts to creating long-life photocells, solar time clocks we have continually broken new ground in the provision of world-class smart street lighting products. The 8481 ‘Long Life’ Photocell, introduced in 1983, was the first of its kind. These photocells, some installed 28 years ago in Oxfordshire, UK are still going strong, accurately switching street lights on at dusk and off at dawn.In 1989 SELC opened its state of the art, 10,000 sqmt, manufacturing facility in Belmullet on the West coast of Ireland in Belmullet, Co Mayo (pictured below). Another landmark for the company was in 1991 when SELC became the first Irish SME to achieve ISO 9001 Approval. SELC has won numerous awards such as the An Taoiseach (Prime Ministers) National Innovation Award (Ireland) in 1999 and the EU ‘Green Light’ award in 2009 for its work on the e-street program – The first full-scale intelligent street lighting installation in Oslo, Norway – the first of its kind in the world.Recent developments in the company include the introduction of the world’s first Wireless (RF) Photocell and the 6000 & 8000 Ranges of Electronic Ballasts which can power lamps up to 150W. This year SELC have also launched a new upgraded Solar Time Clock and introduced the internationally accepted DALI protocol into its Smart Ballasts and Wireless Photocells.With a growing demand for more reliable Part Night photocells, SELC have just launched the 8480 DS Part Night (Daylight Saving BST/GMT Self Adjust Photocell). This photocell will ensure that the ON/OFF switching of street lights is not adversely affected by daylight saving BST/GMT changeover. Today, SELC are developing rapidly with new recruits in sales, R&D, marketing and upper management. SELC have also attracted the interest of ESB Novusmodus, the Capital Development / VC firm in the cleantech and renewable sector.
