Evolucia Lighting brightens-up Tampa's Franklin St. restaurant district in time for the Republican National Convention

Sept. 5, 2012
Date Announced: 05 Sep 2012 Sarasota, FL - As democracy goes to work in Tampa from August 27-30 at the Republican National Convention more than 50,000 delegates will be looking for restaurants and pubs for lunches, dinners and meetings. No place is better situated than Tampa's Franklin Street district just a few short steps from the Tampa Convention Center. Many of those delegates will be unaware of the fact that they will be building the Republican platform under some of the world's most efficient LED (light emitting diode) street lighting. The city of Tampa has embarked on a "green" initiative that will help save taxpayers millions in energy costs. Evolucia Lighting, headquartered in nearby Sarasota, was chosen for the Franklin Street project which replaced one hundred 250 watt Mercury Vapor street lighting fixtures with energy efficient 90 watt LED decorative post top and 150 watt shoe box street lighting fixtures. The Franklin Street area is just a short walk from the Convention Center and features an array of restaurants and pubs from Mediterrean to Mexican and almost everything in between. The restaurants all offer sidewalk dining and street art is interspersed among the flowering myrtle trees."Lighting plays a very important role in creating an inviting and safe streetscape," said Mel Interiano, CEO of Evolucia Inc., "Tampa's old mercury vapor lamps created a dingy and dangerous environment, now the bright white Evolucia LED light allows conventioneers and residents to eat and socialize safely into the night."The old street lights each used 285 watts to run including the energy consumed by the ballast used to drive the lamps. The Evolucia LED post top fixtures only use 90 watts each to provide a whiter and better distributed light. In addition to the decorative post top LED fixtures, Tampa also replaced fourteen 250 watt mercury vapor shoe box street lights with 150 watt LED shoe box streetlights. The shoe box fixtures are used to boost the lighting in the area and to create an even light distribution in the commercial district."The city is saving over 60% of its energy consumption and costs and the fixtures' 70,000 hour life guarantee a reduction in maintenance and maintenance costs. We estimate that the project will pay for itself in less than 4 years. You might say that Tampa is practicing fiscally responsible lighting!" added Interiano. As the 2012 Republican National Convention gets underway, Tampa will be working hard to make conventioneers feel welcome and safe-and good lighting will play a role in that effort. Evolucia's LED post top street lights on Franklin Street may be taken for granted as conventioneers wrangle with all sorts of important issues but the cost savings and efficient operation of this innovative American technology is a bright idea we all can support.About Evolucia, Inc.Evolucia Inc.
