Retro Expo hosts 100 free seminars to pass on The Retrofit Knowledge

Date Announced: 05 Sep 2012 100 FREE seminar sessions offering practical and technical guidance on low carbon retrofits will be taking place at Retro Expo this October. Over 3 days, 5,000 delegates will be able to attend the free sessions involving over 100 high-calibre speakers. The seminar programme features introductory sessions for those embarking on a retrofit workstream, together with masterclass presentations aimed at more experienced practitioners.“Retrofit is set to become the one boom market in the built environment, especially with the imminent launch of The Green Deal. This seminar programme is a must for anyone wishing to benefit from these business opportunities.” commented Dr Peter Rickaby, from Rickaby Thompson Associates who co-chairs the editorial board. “We have strived to make it as comprehensive, relevant, practical and timely as possible and have secured an exciting line up of speakers. Sponsored by EAL and the Technology Strategy Board the programme is divided into four Knowledge Hubs: Stream A – Building Fabric Retrofit Masterclasses These Masterclasses will show how you can save energy through fabric improvements. Rickaby Thompson Associates, AECB, STBA and others will be looking at insulation solutions, Travis Perkins Sustainable Building Solutions on thermally efficient retrofit, Peabody on dealing with the overheating risk and Sustainability & Architecture’s Bill Gething on insulating and sealing ground floors. Stream B – Building Services Retrofit Masterclasses sponsored by EALGuidance on how you can generate efficiencies and cleaner energy through building service upgrades will be given in these Masterclasses. The agenda covers retrofitting communal heating and PV systems, to ventilation and heat recovery options. Speakers include Viridian Solar, Peabody, Devon & Cornwall Housing Association, 1 World Solar and Wattbox as well as United House’s Chris Cheshire on retrofitting communal heating systems in large blocks.Stream C – Whole Building Retrofit case studies sponsored by The Technology Strategy BoardReal life results from exemplar retrofits across the UK will be presented during these sessions. The Technology Strategy Board and the EST will also be launching their Retrofit for the Future online database providing detailed insights into the design, construction and operational performance of some 100 homes which have been retrofitted with a wide range of innovative technologies in order to cut carbon emissions by 80%.Stream D – Retrofit Journeys These sessions provide an introduction to The Green Deal and other Retrofit Drivers. PRP Environmental, AEA, Energy Efficiency Partnership for Buildings, Toriga Energy and the National Housing Federation are some of the speakers that will be looking at planning and monitoring retrofit projects; Green Deal models; building the retrofit supply chain, protecting our heritage, Green Deal Certification and many other issues.
