The new scheme has given the building a bold new identity after dark, signaling a resurgence for both GM and the city. A total of 16 Lumenbeam LBX color-changing LED luminaires were used to accent the tall vertical slots that mark each of the outlying towers, a defining feature of the building.“The Lumenbeam products offered a powerful yet efficient light source,” says Nick Priest, YESCO’s Director of Special Projects. “Anything mounted in the keyways would prove difficult to service due to limited access and the sheer height, so the sturdy construction and long life of the Lumenbeam LBX fixtures was important.”YESCO’s on-site testing revealed that only four LBX fixtures would be needed to light each of the 20-storey concrete keyways, “a testament to the evolution of LED,” says Priest. Lumenpulse’s DMX-based control technology also connects the fixtures into the YESCO PrismView® control network, so the keyways are perfectly color-matched with the crowns on all five towers in response to natural lighting conditions.An IP66-rated luminaire, the Lumenbeam LBX fixture is particularly ideal for architectural floodlighting on tall structures.
