The Artist’ competition gave designers a chance to use a range of spectacular OLED components from OSRAM to create their own masterpiece, with the winner receiving a GBP1,000 prize fund. The competition also demonstrates how OLED is able to offer completely new illumination options in the most varied of application areas. The light source becomes the luminaire, in a way that is both organic and extremely flexible. Ten designs were shortlisted, including entries from Buro Happold, Cooper Industries, P&A Projects, Riegens and WILA.Ian Cathcart, National Sales Manager, OEM, OSRAM UK, comments: “Congratulations to our worthy winner, Christopher Vater, a Product Designer at WILA, for harnessing the incredible possibilities of OLED with a design that impressed all the visitors to the OSRAM stand. Innovation is at the heart of what we do at OSRAM, which is why we were keen to run a competition to inspire the next generation of designers.”Whilst traditional LED light sources are pin points of light, OLED is an ultra-thin lighting material which is transparent, diffused or reflective. The results are spectacular light applications making any room distinctively unique. With no cooling element, no lens and no reflector, the ultra-flat organic light diodes are light in its purest form. As a Pure Light Player, OSRAM covers the entire value added chain for OLED in this future-oriented field, from panels and modules to luminaires.
