Multiple Daktronics LED video displays to be installed at Target Field Station
“We think the Daktronics products will help contribute to a great atmosphere and help make Target Field Station a destination for fans and commuters alike,” said Dan Starkey, senior director of ballpark development for the Minnesota Twins. The main plaza display will be installed on what is being called the Campanile Building above the transit area and facing towards the outside of Target Field’s left field wall. It will measure approximately 16 feet high by 29 feet wide and also feature a 13 HD pixel layout. The display will be used to show live out-of-town game feeds as well as for use concerts that can be held in small amphitheater-like area below the display. The other longer ribbon display will curve around the top of the Vertical Circulation Building which serves as the entrance to the Northstar Commuter Train platform. It will measure approximately 2 feet high by 163 feet wide and feature a 13 HD pixel layout. The goal of this display is to mimic the similar display above Target Field’s main entrance by showing upcoming events, ticket sales information and other relevant game messaging. Nine double-sided displays for 18 total display faces will be installed roughly a foot off the ground and extending upwards. Each will measure approximately 7 feet high by 1 foot wide and feature SMD technology with 3-in-1 LED pixels at 10 millimeter line spacing. These will be used to create an atmosphere with many different color washes and shapes in slow movements that will be tied to background music. The design build was a collaboration with Archetype of Minneapolis, Minn., a nationally recognized leader of custom environmental graphics who provided the fabrication and installation. “These new video installations will greatly enhance the experience of Twins baseball from the moment fans arrive at the stadium, completing a full street-to-seat experience,” said Tony Mulder, Daktronics sales representative. “The new plaza and transit area will really impress fans and introduce a higher level of excitement around attending events at Target Field. We’re excited that Daktronics was able to be a part of these improvements and we can’t wait to see everything completed and operational for the first time this summer.” These displays will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast while providing multiple levels of protection from the elements. The displays can be operated from the existing Target Field control room or from a local control station in the plaza, depending on the event. Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
