100% Accolade for Evolution

Date Announced: 20 Oct 2008 Designed and constructed in the UK by Barrowford based manufacturer ACDC, the brand new Evolution LED recessed downlighter has sent yet another warning to the ‘halogen faithful’ by picking up the ultimate accolade at this year’s 100% Design show in London.Officially unveiled to the UK market at the prestigious Earls Court exhibition, which every year draws a huge number of industry watchdogs and design aficionados eager to see the latest products, the Evolution LED luminaire scooped the new ‘Innovative Lighting Award’, which was judged by Ray Molony, editor of the leading industry journal, Lighting Magazine.Prior to the presentation of the awards, shortlisted products and companies were featured on the 100% Design website and were also presented on the ‘Design Trail’ plinths located throughout the Earls Court exhibition halls. The winners were announced at the 100% Design London Awards at Fulham Town Hall, where ACDC representative Lisa Usher was presented with a stunning Marmoleum trophy, designed by Richard Shed.Speaking of the award, ACDC managing director Gareth Frankland said: “We are obviously delighted to have our revolutionary new Evolution product recognised at this year’s 100% Design London Awards. The hard work put in by the team who brought the product to the market has been rewarded and the benefits of this fantastic product have once again been applauded by the lighting industry.”The Evolution range of downlighters, which now features a 35 watt halogen equivalent, has been designed to give traditional halogen downlighters a run for their money and, with a lifetime in excess of 50,000 hours to 70% lumen maintenance using only 20 Watts, industry commentators are already proclaiming that time may well be running out for halogen.Evolution is an LED based architectural recessed downlight, designed and manufactured by ACDC for the professional lighting specifier. The product takes LED’s to the next level, providing a power output which competes with more conventional light sources and offering light outputs genuinely equivalent to 50 Watt MR16 lamps in warm white.Designed around revolutionary thermo-dynamic technology, Evolution utilises liquid cooling to dissipate the heat away from the LED and features super efficient LED optics specially designed by ACDC, with narrow, medium, wide and extra wide beam options, harnessing over 90% of the light output to deliver a truly outstanding lighting performance. Interchangeable LED modules allow simple replacement at ‘end of life’ with the LED board simply being unplugged and replaced with a new LED source, eliminating the need for replacement of the whole luminaire.
