(www.ilight-tech.com) today announced the completion of a visually energizing lighting project that used almost 1,000 linear feet of green LED lighting for a12-story high rise office tower, Sunroad Centrum, in San Diego, CA. Central to San Diego County with visibility from the freeway, the developers wanted to make their building, Sunroad Centrum, easily identifiable. BPA Architecture Planning Interiors contracted Michael Wall Engineering, Inc. to create a high-profile, eye-catching lighting design for the high rise. The inspiration for the design comes from the Hong Kong Symphony of Lights. Wall’s challenge was to maximize the visual impact while minimizing costs. After Wall determined that outline lighting would best accomplish their objectives, a number of options were considered including cold cathode, neon, linear fluorescent and LED. iLight’s LED linear lighting system, Plexineon, proved visually bright, energy-efficient, and so simple to install that there was no need to have the architect create expensive architectural elements for mounting of the lights. Wall stated, “We mocked up a floor and we were surprised at the visual impact of the Plexineon from a very great distance.” Five of the floors were horizontally outlined with Green Plexineon lighting. For a finished look, outside illuminated mitered corner fixtures were used in addition to the standard length fixtures. Additionally, green Plexineon 22” field cuttable fixtures were used to fill in the gaps and allow for field adjustments. Wall added, “Now that it’s been installed, the local aviators recognize the building as a landmark structure.”The visual effect is just what the owner was seeking. BPA Architecture and Michael Wall Engineering were able to provide an elegant and simple solution with striking impact. The building was also LEED Silver certified.
