SkyBoards Chooses Watchfire for its First Digital Billboard

Date Announced: 23 Jun 2008 Back-to-Back Digital Billboard Planned for US 52 in Burlington, OhioINDIANAPOLIS (June 23, 2008) – Catlettsburg, Ky.-based SkyBoards has announced it will install its first digital billboard, which was manufactured by Watchfire Digital Outdoor (http://www.watchfiredigitaloutdoor.com). The 19mm 10’6” x 22’ billboard will be situated at a busy, 4-way intersection on US 52 in Burlington, Ohio—a major throughway between Huntington, W.Va. and Ashland, Ky. SkyBoards selected a Watchfire second-generation LED billboard, which features 768 LEDs per sq. ft., a super-vivid 7,500 nit daytime setting (with field adjustment), and a color palette of 281 trillion colors. The combination of the densely packed LEDs, the vivid daytime setting, and the deepest color palette in the industry results in the best looking LED billboards available. “Digital billboards offer a much better return on investment when you compare them to traditional vinyl billboards,” said Kirby Milem, co-owner of SkyBoards. “With vinyl, I have one board with one advertiser and a long permit process along with it. With digital, I go through the permit process once and can sign up to eight advertisers on that one board; the combination of benefits makes going digital a smart business decision.” Milem is taking full advantage of those benefits by installing a double-sided, two-level structure on the US 52 intersection, which houses major retail stores, such as Lowe’s, Wal-Mart and others. When completed, the structure, which already has received the necessary permits, will include one vinyl billboard and one digital billboard on each side, servicing a total of nine advertisers Eastbound and nine advertisers Westbound; 18 advertisers in all. “SkyBoards is maximizing the flexibility and ease-of-use features inherent in a Watchfire digital billboard,” said Darrin Friskney of Watchfire Digital Outdoor. “We try to make the conversion to digital as easy as possible. Everything from our no-fee software to a well-coordinated installation ensures that the board is generating revenue on day one.” SkyBoards selected Watchfire Digital Outdoor for its reputation for manufacturing reliable billboards and for the company’s tireless customer service. “The structural manufacturer for our sign recommended Watchfire Digital,” explained Milem. “We are excited to bring digital outdoor technology to our customers and are pleased to have Watchfire as our partner.”Watchfire Digital Outdoor produces the industry’s only 19mm pixel pitch billboard—which packs 768 LEDs into every sq. ft.—and is capable of producing 281 trillion colors, the most in the industry. It is the only manufacturer that fully encapsulates the LED module in a thick bed of silicone gel, which enables the LED boards to operate in extreme conditions: 180+ days completely submerged in water, 60 days in a salt-spray chamber, and temperatures ranging from -40° F to 120° F. In areas where heat and humidity are both high, the silicone gel protects the boards from humidity and moisture, eliminating the need for cooling units. All Watchfire boards feature unique cabinetry and streamlined electronics design that improve operation and simplify maintenance. Watchfire’s warranty, lead-times, customer support, and no-fee software are considered to be the best in the industry. Watchfire boards comply with the 2006 International Building Code. For a free copy of “10 Critical Facts You Need to Know Before Buying,” go to www.watchfiredigitaloutdoor.com/freetips11. ### About Watchfire Digital Outdoor Watchfire Digital Outdoor engineers and manufactures the best looking and most durable digital billboards available anywhere.
