Date Announced: 24 Feb 2011 Two projects that were supplied by Architainment Lighting Ltd are hoping to win an award at the upcoming Lighting Design Awards in London this March. Lighting Design International has been nominated for its work on premier office building, The Peak, and Jason Bruges Studio has also been shortlisted for its interactive lighting installation on at Sunderland Station. Lighting Design International’s (LDI) work on premier office headquarters, The Peak, in London’s Victoria, has been shortlisted in the Exterior Lighting category. Along with architect, Shephard Robson, and installers, Emcor, Architainment was lucky enough to support LDI as it worked to transform the site’s identity. Following a bespoke mock-up of the cladding, LDI specified approximately 700 fixtures of Philips Color Kinetics iColor Cove® MX Powercore to light up the outside of the building. The iColor Cove® MX Powercore is a high-intensity LED fixture with virtually limitless options for filling indoor alcoves and accent spaces with vibrant light. The fixtures use of Powercore® technology efficiently controls power output to fixtures directly from line voltage. The fitting guarantees hue consistency across LEDs, fixtures, and manufacturing runs and works seamlessly with both Philips line of controllers such as the iPlayer 3 and third-party controllers. The 79,079 sq ft building, owned by Heron International, was named West End Development of the Year at the 2010 Office Awards and LDI is now hoping that the impressive lighting design illuminating the building’s exterior will also be recognised at the upcoming Lighting Design Awards. LDI Design Associate, Nishi Shah, commented: “The Peak’s architecture is enhanced with dynamic lighting giving this new landmark a strong visual night-time presence in the heart of this busy interchange.” Jason Bruges Studio’s Platform 5 installation is another of the projects to be nominated, this time shortlisted in the Special Projects category. In creating Platform 5 in Sunderland station, Jason Bruges Studio called on Architainment to supply 717 Philips Color Kinetics eW® Flex SLX fittings. This warm white string LED solution, which was installed by LX Engineering, is a versatile strand of 15 individually controllable white light LED nodes. The lighting installation is the centrepiece of the new station, which has recently undergone a £7 million revamp, and features shadow figures walking back and forth along the platform, mimicking the passengers as they wait. Jason Bruges Studio will be competing against companies such as Arup in the Special Projects category. Architainment’s Lee Shields, Key Account Manager for both projects, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Jason Bruges Studio and Lighting Design International on what are both very different but equally innovative and impressive lighting projects. I am now looking forward to supporting both designers at the awards in March.” The Lighting Design Awards will be held at Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London on Thursday 11th March 2011.
