Futurum fitting from Vekso: Moulding design into technology

Feb. 21, 2011
Date Announced: 21 Feb 2011 That is the no-compromise challenge from VEKSØ, the design and manufacturing company that has just launched its latest take on the LED light fitting of the future: Futurum. It is a fitting that gives architects full creative freedom while simultaneously providing all the benefits of state-of-the-art lighting technology.Architects get freedom of designThe ultra-slim profile – just 14 mm – opens up a wealth of installation options. For example, Futurum fittings can be built into a variety of ceiling types – with or without ceiling fixtures. They can also be installed using a frame, or suspended from wires. Moreover, the driver can be positioned as far away as 3 metres from the light fitting itself, which provides architects with a remarkable degree of design freedom. The technology in the Futurum panel is based on the same principle as is used in LED TVs. An acrylic panel is illuminated from the sides by LEDs, which direct the light downwards. This makes Futurum an illuminating surface that sits flush with the ceiling and helps produce the impression that the ceiling is one uninterrupted surface, with no shadows. The driver is made in Denmark and has been developed specifically for Futurum. It has an efficiency rating of 88%, which is currently unsurpassed on the market.
