Feb. 3, 2011
Date Announced: 03 Feb 2011 Moscow based lighting rental company Light Logic supplied Robe LEDWash 600 and ColorWash 1200 moving lights for the Orthodox Christmas Ceremonial Service held at the Cathedral of Christ The Saviour in Moscow on January 7th. People queued all day for the chance to join the Service, which was attended by President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, and broadcast live by leading TV station Channel One Russia to approximately 140 million people nationwide.Lighting for this exceptionally high profile event was designed by Light Logic's Dmitry Velikanov, who took the opportunity to utilise some of their newly purchased ROBIN LEDWash 600 fixtures, along with the workhorse ColorWash 1200E ATs. Just in time for their busy festive schedule, the company took delivery of 50 LEDWash 600s from Russian distributor, Sofitlight. The Robes were positioned all around the second level galleries of the magnificent Cathedral, the most prominent in central Russia, rebuilt from the ground up in the 1990s after the original was destroyed in 1931. The lights were about 8 metres above the congregation and the action below. The 36 LEDWash 600s and 40 x ColorWash 1200E ATs were used to illuminate the audience and enhance the light levels for the cameras, as well as to highlight the fabulous architecture, which includes some intricate gold pattern work. The excellent range of whites produced by the LEDWash 600 (from 2700K - 8000K) were perfect for the job.Other LEDWash 600 features that were "ideal" for this project explains Velikanov included the neat and small dimensions, which helped the units to be concealed around the Cathedral. All the moving lights were controlled by Velikanov using a WholeHog 3 console.Light Logic has been investing in the Robe brand for some years, and already has a large stock of ColorSpot and Wash 1200E ATs, 575s and 250s which are used constantly for numerous events and TV shows. They work regularly with several channels including Channel One Russia, NTV and TNT, and keep with Robe because their fixtures have been consistently reliable and a great product for use in demanding televisual environments. The Christmas Ceremonial Service was conducted by The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russian Kirill, Head of the Orthodox Church, and mirrored in thousands of other churches and cathedrals around the country. The Channel One Russia host was Aleksey Svetozarsky, Professor of Moscow Spiritual Academy.
