Boston-based Digital Lumens chosen to light the Massachusetts Wind Technology Testing Center

May 19, 2011
Date Announced: 19 May 2011 Boston, MA - Digital Lumens announced that the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's (MassCEC) world-class Wind Technology Testing Center (WTTC), which opened today, is illuminated with the LED-based Digital Lumens Intelligent Lighting System™. The WTTC facility -- the first commercial large blade test facility in the nation -- is designed to attract wind technology and other renewable energy technology companies to Massachusetts. The Intelligent Lighting System from Boston-based Digital Lumens was chosen based on several factors: using 66% less energy than traditional lighting alternatives; the ability to provide required light levels from the 80-foot ceiling heights of the facility; integrated networking and intelligence to maximize energy savings; ease of installation; and, elimination of maintenance and re-lamping associated with other lighting sources. The system was installed by Daigle Electric with a team of electricians from the Boston-based IBEW Local 103."Thanks to the Patrick-Murray Administration, Massachusetts is leading the way in clean energy innovation, with companies developing solutions and infrastructure for the next-generation cleantech economy right here in the Commonwealth," said Patrick Cloney, Executive Director, MassCEC. "With their creative approach to energy-efficient lighting, Digital Lumens is helping the WTTC achieve dramatic savings, while serving as a terrific local success story. We are delighted that Digital Lumens is a part of the WTTC project.""We congratulate the MassCEC on the completion of this important venture, and are extremely pleased to be involved," said Tom Pincince, Digital Lumens President and CEO. "The WTTC embodies all the principles of the MassCEC and will deliver lasting value to the clean energy marketplace. We appreciate the opportunity to bring our Intelligent Lighting System to the project, providing energy-efficient lighting that maximizes workplace safety."The WTTC is funded by a grant of $24.7 million from the Department of Energy, combined with $13.2 million in grants and loans from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC). Construction of the WTTC facility began in late 2009 and opened in Spring, 2011. The project is anticipated to create more than 300 new jobs.About Digital LumensDigital Lumens develops LED-based Intelligent Lighting Systems, which reduce industrial customers' lighting-related electricity expenses by up to 90% and transform lighting into a managed asset, improving efficiency, control and operational insight.
