PhotonStar LED chooses 3D printer for Laser Lines for LED prototyping

April 19, 2011
Date Announced: 19 Apr 2011 Laser Lines has concluded a deal to supply Hampshire-based PhotonStar LED with a Hewlett-Packard Designjet 3D Printer.PhotonStarLED designs and develops high-performance LED light fittings for a wide variety commercial, industrial and domestic applications. The company had previously outsourced its rapid prototyping work, so its new HP Designjet from Laser Lines will enable a dramatic improvement in the efficiency of the design process. James Hyson from PhotonStarLED is in no doubt about the benefits in-house 3D printing will bring to their business. “The new Designjet is going to really speed-up product development, which in turn will make a dramatic improvement in our time to market. Shortening the development time means we can be far more responsive to our customers and the needs of the market.” Phil Roberts, technical sales engineer with Laser Lines, said “We are delighted with PhotoStar’s decision and there’s no doubt they’ve made an excellent choice. The HP Designjet’s desktop system employs the fused deposition modelling (FDM) technology developed by Stratasys to produce very high-quality, durable prototypes.” James Hyson continues; “The capability to produce prototypes when we need them is a great aid to product development; it’s a great communication tool, enabling the team to collaborate much easier to improve design and decrease design iterations. Plus…it looks great!”
