Samsung LED and KOPTI agree on LED lighting R&D cooperation

Date Announced: 13 Jul 2011 Seoul, Korea - To accelerate the development of LED lighting-related technology and the cultivation of highly-skilled R&D manpower, Samsung LED Co.,Ltd (CEO: Jae Kwon Kim) and the Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI) have agreed on the technical collaboration of LED lighting. On June 30th, Samsung LED Co., Ltd and KOPTI signed the technology collaboration agreement for LED lighting. With the manufacturing know-how gained from the years of experience in LED business, Samsung LED Co.,Ltd is now seeking to achieve maximum synergy by utilizing the assets that KOPTI have obtained for many years such as technical skills, highly skilled researchers and equipments. For the next three years, various researches will be executed at “Samsung LED-KOPTI LED lighting technology collaboration center” established within KOPTI. The main fields that two organizations will focus on are development of technologies for LED lighting, core technologies for lighting and LED packages for the next generation. Through early development of the supplementary yet essential technologies within the center, both organizations are aiming not only to obtain the global competitiveness but also to expand its cooperation for the global standard. “Technologies and the infrastructure that KOPTI has developed for many years will help Samsung LED in great deal to become a leading global company.” said Jae Kwon Kim, CEO of Samsung LED about the agreement.
