Date Announced: 13 Oct 2011 Eschborn – Verbatim announces two new LED lamps designed for the most popular UK sockets, the B22 bayonet fitting. Verbatim, a division of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, is the first major brand to offer these Classic A style LED lamps, which offer 75% energy savings over traditional incandescent bulbs and have a service life of 35,000 hours, around 50 times that of a conventional bulb. To date, most LED lamp manufacturers have only introduced products with screw fittings to address the larger continental European market, or spotlights, both of which Verbatim also manufactures.There are two B22 lamps, a 6.5W model designed to replace 25W incandescent light bulbs and an 10W version for replacing 40W bulbs. Both offer a warm white light with colour temperatures of 2700K and 3000K respectively. They are dimmable using standard dimmers and have a colour rendering index (CRI) of 80. An 8W version will be announced later this year.All Verbatim LED lamps are based on phosphor coatings applied to blue LEDs. This creates a broad spectrum of white light. Lenses within the fixtures focus the light and built-in electrical circuits drive the LEDs efficiently, enabling initial costs to be recovered through energy savings and the exceptionally long service life of the lamps. In Europe, lighting in homes and businesses accounts for about 20% of all electricity consumption, so conversion to LED lighting has a significant impact on enegy usage and carbon footprint.
