Date Announced: 07 Jan 2011 Guangzhou, China – Future Lighting Solutions is pleased to announce the illumination of the Pearl River in Guangzhou, with 700,000 LUXEON Rebel LEDs. The city of Guangzhou recently completed a project to illuminate the banks of the Pearl River as part of their welcome ceremony for the Asian Games and to celebrate the successful convening of the Games in Guangzhou. This project was an open tender called for by the Guangzhou Municipal Government, which was awarded to Roled Opto Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The project objectives were to create a green, energy efficient, environmentally friendly and high-tech Asian Games. The Guangzhou Municipal Government’s requirements called for a professional LED manufacturer, with reliable pre and post sales support, with the hope of getting a solution that could meet their requirements in terms of energy efficiency, protection for the environment, and sustainability for future development.Roled Opto Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was the main designer of the solution for this project. The deployment involved approximately 30,000 LED light fixtures and 700,000 LUXEON Rebel LEDs. ChinaConstruction Eighth Engineering Division (Guangzhou Subsidiary) was responsible for the onsite installation. LUXEON Rebel LEDs were selected based on their luminous flux, color temperature, color index and reliability of the LEDs. With the help of Future Lighting Solutions and the use of their HTUUsable Light ToolUTH (ULT), LEDs best suited for this project were selected. Roled also made use of HTUQLED Thermal simulation softwareUTH to optimize their heat dissipation system. With the support of the Lighting Resource Center, Roled was also able to test and evaluate optical lenses, and successfully deployed National Semiconductors’ buck regulator as part of their electrical solution.Future Lighting Solutions and Roled have always based their partnership on a philosophy of strategic cooperation. With assistance provided by Future Lighting Solutions and their Lighting Resource Center, Roled Opto Electronics selected suitable LED models and optical lenses, which were able to resolve a number of lighting issues related to lighting efficiency and light distribution. They also had to keep in mind that the Guangzhou Municipal Government expected to recover their investment within 3 years, and hence deviseda solution based on LED light fixtures as this technology delivers more than 60% savings in terms of energy consumption, and reduces CO2 emissions by 80%. These factors greatly shorten time taken to actualize the return on investment.
