Light Emitting Designs (LED-LLC.com) today announced the successful application of light emitting diode (LED) bulbs for the Cary, Illinois Metrarail train station. Located in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, along the Union Pacific Railroad line, this prominent commuter station roughly bisects the community of 19,000.

As the need arose to replace bulbs for the Cary station street posts, Union Pacific Railroad Manager Mark Oshinski explained that the current process is to retrofit the posts for LED. He said, “At Union Pacific Railroad, we are committed to protecting the environment now and for future generations. Replacing the existing HID bulbs with energy-efficient LED is the right thing to do and their longevity delivers a return on investment through reduced maintenance costs.”

Crystal Lake electrical and lighting distributor CED supplied the bulbs. “LED solutions for commercial and industrial applications have reached mainstream status for us,” says Manager Ethan Fackler. “In commercial applications where lights are operating twelve hours a day, reducing wattage to 35 from 175 means significant energy savings.” As other businesses and entities learn about the LED solution, Fackler is confident they will join the LED retrofit revolution. Although the term may apply to any number of environmentally responsible adaptations, in this instance it refers to retrofitting an electric lamp to accept LED replacement bulbs where HID, halogen, fluorescent or incandescent bulbs previously existed.

Tim Taylor, CEO of manufacturer Light Emitting Designs, has worked in the lighting and energy controls industry for more than 20 years. “We believe that the LED solution for commercial lighting applications has reached a tipping point. Socially responsible companies and municipalities are no longer debating ‘if’ they will adopt LED solutions, but rather, ‘when.’ In this instance, our LED Post Top is the obvious choice. It is mercury-free, inert gas free, and eliminates service calls for cycling HID lamps, while also reducing demand from the grid. Our full coverage warranty is reassuring to new customers and adds our stamp of confidence in the product. It will be lighting the way for a long time.”

Light Emitting Designs, a Division of TADD LLC, was founded in 2007 as a supplier of quality LED retrofit products with a focus on the Electrical Distribution channel. Its product line includes PARs, MRs and T8s, as well as niche products like High Bays, Post Tops and Wall Packs. Light Emitting Designs manufactures a full line of LED products to meet commercial, industrial and municipal demand.
