Date Announced: 09 Mar 2011 ON Semiconductor expands energy efficient solutions for home electronics with new series of high performance PWM controllersCompany to demonstrate solutions for power management in smart meters, home office and consumer electronics, and LED lighting for residential and commercial applications at APECApplied Power Electronics Conference (APEC), FORT WORTH, Texas. – Booth 419 – March 07, 2010 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a premier supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics has expanded its portfolio of ac-dc power solutions for home electronics with the introduction of the NCP1234 and NCP1236 family of fixed frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) current mode controllers. These solutions are targeted at ac-dc adapter applications for laptop/notebook computers, LCD displays, printers and household consumer electronics. These new products and a number of energy efficient solutions targeting applications connecting to the smart grid and various home electronics will be demonstrated at APEC by ON Semiconductor at Booth 419. Live demonstrations will include application solutions ranging from power management for smart electric meters, home office and consumer products, and a variety of LED lighting solutions for residential and commercial lighting applications. The NCP1234 and NCP1236 family allows high performance offline power supplies to be designed into systems, while minimizing the footprint and board space area required. Utilizing a high voltage process technology, they integrate multiple features such as over power compensation, brownout (NCP1236 only) and ramp compensation without increasing power dissipation or adding external components. High voltage Dynamic Self-Supply (DSS) technology enables direct connection to the line voltage eliminating the need for startup resistors. This technology combined with the family’s ability to automatically decrease frequency at light loads before entering skip mode, ensures maximum efficiency across the entire load range.“These controllers are optimized to deal with the challenges set by modern power supply designs, where high efficiency and low power consumption are needed for light and no load conditions” said Shane Chilton, director of ON Semiconductor’s AC-DC products group. “The new devices provide design engineers with the competitive advantages of reduced board size and increased efficiency. Through a high level of integration, minimal additional discrete components are required, thus lowering the overall solution cost and enabling higher power density solutions.”Packaging and PricingThe NCP1234 and NCP1236 are available in two frequency options, 65 kHz or 100 kHz with the option to automatically recover, or latch off the device during a fault condition. Housed in an SOIC-7 package, the pricing for these devices is $0.35 per unit for 10,000 unit quantities.APEC Booth 419To view live demos of the NCP1234 and NCP1236, visit ON Semiconductor’s Booth 419 at APEC. The APEC conference is being held at the Fort Worth, TX, Convention Center March 6-10, 2011.About ON SemiconductorON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN) is a premier supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics.
