Akron Aeros Choose Daktronics for one of the largest video displays in Double-A baseball
Feb. 6, 2013
Date Announced: 06 Feb 2013 Brookings, S.D. – The Akron Aeros are set to improve Canal Park in a big way by introducing one of the largest LED video displays in Double-A baseball, designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics (Nasdaq – DAKT) of Brookings, S.D. The new display – the largest that Daktronics has installed for a minor league Double-A baseball team – more than quadruples the preexisting display size while also bringing High Definition video capability to the Ohio-based ballpark for when the Aeros’ season begins in April.“We wanted to give the fans something special and this video display project will make Canal Park THE place for affordable family fun in Akron,” said Ken Babby, Owner of the Aeros. “We knew such an important project required a company with the expertise and history of Daktronics. Daryl Mihal and their staff have been there every step and I cannot imagine a project of this scale without such support.”The main video display features a 15HD pixel layout that measures 26 feet tall by 68 feet wide. It will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast, multiple levels of protection from the elements and a more robust cabinet design. It is capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays. It can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics and scoring information. It also provides additional space for sponsor advertisements and shows all content with outstanding brightness and wide-angle visibility. In addition, Canal Park will also be receiving a new outfield ribbon display measuring 6 feet tall by 54 feet wide, and a new auxiliary display replacing the previous fixed digit scoreboard that measures more than 8 feet tall by 36 feet wide. These displays will provide the opportunity to showcase sponsors throughout events and provide up-to-the-minute statistics, game information and out-of-town scores.“The Akron Aeros have been a pleasure to work with and a great partnership for Daktronics,” said Daryl Mihal, Daktronics Sales Representative. “We knew they wanted to really ‘wow’ their fans with their new display, so we worked with them to provide the best option and the right fit for their stadium. It will be exciting to see it turned on for their first game this spring.”Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.About Akron AerosThe Akron Aeros are a minor league baseball team based in Akron, Ohio, who play at Canal Park which seats over 9,000 fans.
