May 2, 2013
Date Announced: 02 May 2013 Smithers Apex’s LEDs & the SSL Ecosystem 2013: Phase II the Path to Profit is relocating to Boston, Massachusetts for the 14th annual conference and exhibition. This year’s event will take place Monday, October 28 through Tuesday, October 29 at the Omni Parker House Hotel in Boston, MA, and will focus on LEDs in commercial and consumer markets and the progression of the industry from LEDs to the larger ecosystem. Guidance for the program is supported by an advisory committee of industry thought leaders at the forefront of SSL innovation and applications including Dr. Chips Chipalkatti, formerly of OSRAM; Jason Chesley, TÜV SÜD America; Dr. Neil Cameron, Emerald Technology Ventures; Jon Linn, Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships; Kent Larson, MIT Media Lab; Brian Chemel, Digital Lumens; and Govi Rao, Noveda Technologies.“As demonstrated by last week’s LIGHTFAIR, the East coast – and Boston, in particular – is a hub of innovation and activity for the LED and lighting communities at both the commercial and academic levels. We are thrilled to be holding this year’s event in Boston,” said Dr. Chipalkatti, conference chairman. “We will exchange ideas and share successes and challenges experienced in the ongoing transformation from the evolution of light source technology to fulfill the true promise of solid state lighting.”“Relocating the LEDs conference to Boston will allow us to capitalize on the incredible talent, growth in research and innovation taking place in New England and internationally,” said John Lewinski, head of US events for Smithers Apex. “As our LEDs conference has evolved, the discussion has moved from the technology to applications and this conference will provide a road map for the next generation of successful lighting business models. Most importantly, this will be an opportunity to build relationships and partnerships with hundreds of industry leaders across the value chain, including lighting designers, architects, design engineers, manufacturers, specifiers and end users.”Speaker recruitment for 2013 is now underway. Abstracts will be accepted through Friday, May 24, 2013 and should focus on new technologies and innovations; how LEDs interact with existing and future infrastructures including light sources, standards, sensing and communication; novel applications in commercial and residential buildings, medical environments, automotive and other transportation; and other topics related to lighting applications or end use.
