Shaun Gray succeeds founder Liam Kelly as Nualight Group chief executive
Retail technology and business services expert Shaun Gray has been appointed new CEO of the Nualight Group as the Irish LED lighting specialist continues its growth as a global lighting technology company, it has been announced.
With over 25 years’ experience in senior business roles across global corporations and SMEs, Gray brings an established track-record working with new technologies and diverse business models in both established and emerging markets.
He succeeds Liam Kelly, Nualight founder, who oversaw the company’s rapid growth as CEO since its inception in 2005. Kelly, a serial entrepreneur, is retiring but will remain on the board of the Nualight Group.
Per Langholz, Nualight chairman, said he welcomed the newest addition to the Nualight Group’s executive team. “As a company we are working hard to continue to build a secure and solid foundation for future growth and profitability. Shaun’s technology track-record and expertise in business development will facilitate this,” he said.
“As we continue to grow globally and drive expansion into new market segments, his profile and industry experience fits extremely well with the group’s future vision. We look forward to working with Shaun in his new role and driving Nualight’s progress on as an organisation. I also want to pay tribute to Dr Liam Kelly for his immense contribution to Nualight, from start-up through to our international expansion and progress over recent years.”
Gray was most recently CEO of ZBD solutions Ltd and took a pre-revenue business through consistent year-on-year growth for four years at an annual growth rate of more than 200%. He was integral to the successful re-structuring of the company’s “go to market” initiative which was recognised with numerous industry awards including the Sunday Times Fast Track, Deloitte Fast 50 and Fast 500. Under his leadership the company built a significantly evolved product road map with strengthened in-house IP and an Asia-based global supply chain.
Gray was CEO of Dione plc between 2002 and 2005, inheriting an insolvent mature business and turning it around in his first year to lay foundations for a high growth phase. In the two and a half years under Gray’s stewardship, the company went from losses of $5million to $12m positive. Gray also spent nearly 10 years in Siemens and was a Board member of its German-based $1 Billion financial services division up to 1998.
Founded by Dr Kelly in 2005, Nualight is recognised as a market innovator in LED case lighting for food retail with a market leadership position in early-adopting markets in Europe and North America and channels into high-growth emerging markets. Nualight has pioneered LED lighting in the refrigerated cabinets of leading grocery retail chains and its products are lighting up displays in retail giants across the globe including Tesco, Ahold, Kroger, Shwarz, COOP Group and many more. Fundamentally, Nualight views LED lighting as a digital technology that will transform how lighting is applied and controlled in retail environments. In late 2011, Nualight acquired Lumotech BV and is now a group with three divisions: Retail (Nualight brand), Commercial (Lumoluce brand) and Drivers & Controls (Lumotech brand).
The Nualight Group, which is headquartered in Ireland, has design innovation centres in Ireland and the Netherlands and high-volume manufacturing facilities in Poland. Nualight is a private company funded by strategic retail and cleantech investors including Climate Change Capital and Greencoat Capital.
