LED Waves releases UL test reports for new outdoor LED floodlight

Oct. 9, 2013
Date Announced: 09 Oct 2013 In July of 2013, energy efficient lighting manufacturer LED Waves introduced an exclusive new series of outdoor LED flood lights made in the USA. The weatherproof Owl™ Pack, available in 10, 20, 30, 50, 70, 100, and 200 Watt units, was designed to illuminate a wide range of building exteriors and landscapes while saving on electricity and/or maintenance costs incurred by the metal halide, quartz halogen, and high intensity discharge lamps traditionally used in these applications.LED Waves is pleased to release the UL Photometric Outdoor Test Report of the 50 Watt Owl Pack, which was the most highly anticipated for the residential market. This report, specific to building exterior lighting, measures luminous intensity at various distances from the fixture. At 4,581 and 4,623 lumens, the Owl Pack units tested brighter than LED Waves had projected, with an average of 367 more initial lumens. (These projections were based on the performance specifications of the LEDs and power supplies built into the unit.)Furthermore, the test reports revealed BUG rating of B2-U0-G0, which proved the Owl Packs’ effectiveness at eliminating light pollution and improving overall outdoor quality of light. The BUG system, established by the Illuminating Engineering Society, measures Backlighting, Uplighting, and Glare. The scale runs from B0-U0-G0 (best) to B5-U5-G5 (unacceptable). The UL Photometric Outdoor Test Reports for the 70, 100 and 200 Watt, which serve more industrial LED lighting applications, will be released in late 2013.These test results represent an exciting development in the professional lighting community. The arrival of the Owl Pack was highly anticipated since having previewed at industry events including Philadelphia’s LIGHTFAIR2013 and Boston’s BuildingsEnergy before its official release. The Owl Pack has made a splash in large part due to its employment of the Vero. This new range of highly efficient LEDs, released by California manufacturer Bridgelux earlier this year, improves quality of light and strengthens the light fixture with its single-chip light source and solderless construction. The Owl Pack is also distinguished as an LED light made in the USA – a rarity in an industry dominated by offshore manufacturing. The quality assured by building this product line onsite at LED Waves’ Brooklyn headquarters affirms the 5 year warranty the company places on all their American-made LED lights.Select models of the Owl Pack will be on display at the LED Waves booth (number 716) at the NECA Convention at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center this weekend in Washington, DC.
