Date Announced: 13 Nov 2013 ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orange County Utilities chose a solution provided by Access Fixtures, retrofitting 15 light bollards used for aesthetic purposes lining the walk to their entrance. Orange County Utilities wanted to replace existing 70w metal halide lamps and ballasts with LED lighting to save energy and reduce maintenance. The challenge faced was their bollard lights were powered by 277 volt which limited options short of replacing the entire light bollard. Access Fixtures solution was to replace the existing 277v metal halide lamps and ballasts with high performance 277v self-ballasted LED lamps. The LED solution is rated for 50,000 hours and reduces energy use by over 85%."Access Fixtures supplied an energy efficient solution that was able to maintain similar lumen output without having to replace existing bollard lights," said Access Fixtures CEO, Steven Rothschild. He continued, "Our lighting specialists have the expertise to work with commercial clients, understand their needs and supply cost effective solutions meeting their unique requirements."The large commercial building in Orange County had 277v line voltage, which could not cost effectively be changed, powering 15 bollard lights equipped with 70w metal halide lamps and ballasts which use 85 system watts. Electricians bypassed the ballast and wired directly to the socket. The socket was retrofitted with a mogul to medium adapter. The self-ballasted 277v 10w LED lamps were then installed in the medium sockets. The system saves 75 watts per bollard.
