Aug. 27, 2013
Date Announced: 27 Aug 2013 Peachtree City, Ga. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton today announced that its Cooper Lighting division is rolling out its new light-emitting diode (LED) WaveStream™ technology with the introduction of the Metalux Encounter™ ambient luminaires. Making LED products available for a wide range of applications, these cost-effective solutions are designed to increase energy savings while providing superior optical performance and brightness control.“LED technology has come a long way over the past few years, but most manufacturers are still struggling to develop and offer cost-effective solutions that not only look great, but also perform well,” said Mark Eubanks, president, Eaton’s Cooper Lighting division. “Our new WaveStream line addresses that challenge, providing users with an unparalleled balance of form and function at affordable price points. The Metalux Encounter series is the first of many WaveStream products rolling out this year that make LED lighting possible for a wider range of applications.”The Lighting division’s new proprietary WaveStream technology features laser-precise, AccuAim™ advanced optics that are embedded and arranged in exacting patterns in an elegant luminous plane. Using advanced injection molding technology, a patented optical coupling process maximizes the amount of light injected into the WaveStream. The result is precisely directed light output, targeted ray angle control and optimal distributions tailored to each fixture and application. The highly efficient WaveStream LED technology delivers a uniform, glare-free, soft light for superior visual comfort.Utilizing the new WaveStream technology is the Lighting division’s Metalux Encounter LED series. Offering a thin and clean contemporary styling, the Metalux Encounter LED series provides an unrivaled freedom of design and creativity, offering specifiers and customers a new level of energy efficiency, optical performance and brightness control at an affordable price. The series is currently available in 2 foot by 2 foot and 2 foot by 4 foot configurations with 3000 Kelvin (K), 3500K and 4000K Correlated Color Temperatures (CCT) choices and a typical 85 Color Rendering Index (CRI). Offered in standard lumen packages ranging from 2,500 to 6,700 lumens with custom lumen packages available, the series features a high-performance efficacy of up to 104 lumens per watt (lm/W) for an energy savings in excess of 50 percent compared to typical fluorescent equivalents. The Metalux Encounter luminaires are equipped with a zero to 10 volt standard dimming driver with a Fifth Light™ (DALI) option available and are compatible with all of today's popular ceiling systems. Fixtures come with a standard five-year warranty and a projected life of 60,000 hours at 85 percent output for the 2 foot by 2 foot fixtures and 78 percent lumen output for the 2 foot by 4 foot fixtures. The Encounter’s glare-free styling and affordable price points make it an ideal choice for commercial office spaces, schools, hospitals, retail and other indoor ambient applications. In addition to the Metalux Encounter luminaires, the Lighting division has plans to expand its WaveStream technology later this year to include products from several of its other brands.
