OptiLED replaces incandescent S11 glass bulbs

Feb. 17, 2005
Date Announced: 17 Feb 2005 OptiLED introduces its S11 LED pseudo-filament lamp today, a breakthrough LED product that can replace incandescent S11 glass light bulbs. The OptiLED S11 is ideal for a variety of applications, including marquees, retail, hospitality, staging and residential environments that require a bright-colored lighting effect while offering ultra low power consumption and heat output. Capable of continually burning for over five years, with low heat output and peak power consumption of less than 0.5 watts, the OptiLED S11 is a very durable and safe light source. The S11’s optically clear polycarbonate dome does away with the need for painted glass, eliminating problems of fading, cracking and appearing black when turned off. The unit is very robust with an IP-63 rating making it suitable for damp or wet environments. It also includes UV protection for its polymeric components for long life in exterior uses. The S11 virtual-filament LED lamp is available in five colors – red, green, blue, amber and white, and comes in single color packs of 10 or multipacks containing two lamps of each color. “The S11 was developed to meet the demands of our customers who needed an LED lamp that was easily adapted to any environment and could create a wide range of effects while reducing power consumption,” said Bruce Pelton, OptiLED’s Vice President of Sales. “The S11 solved these challenges as it emits much less heat than the incandescent glass bulbs yet produces brilliant and intense, long-lasting colors.”Using a switched mode power supply, it operates on voltages from 100 VAC to 240 VAC. The electronics and light source sit beneath the optics with the light traveling through the Light Prescription Innovators’ (LPI) primary optic to the center of the globe and the secondary LPI optic dispersing the light in a 360 degree pattern on the horizontal plane and 300 degree pattern on the vertical plane. The colored S11 LEDs have a rated life in excess of 5 years continuous use, very low heat output and a peak power consumption of less than 0.5 watts making it a very durable and safe light source. “Compared to the OptiLED S11, the standard incandescent lamp has a rated life of 1,500 hours or less than 2.5 months continuous operation and would need to be replaced up to 5 times a year,” continued Pelton. “The benefits achieved using an OptiLED S11 translate into reduced power consumption, replacement costs and significantly reduced maintenance.”OptiLED stands apart from other LED lamp makers with its integrated high-precision optical technology that enhances the performance of its LED products. By combining optical technology and advanced LEDs, OptiLED is able to create products that are more efficient, durable, flexible, and longer-lasting than most other lamp products.
