Carroll was lauded for team building, organizational skills, and passion that she has contributed to the IES over 25 years of service.

Megan Carroll, LC, MIES, received a 2021 IES Distinguished Service Award (DSA) for her 25 years of service to the Society. The award was presented at the (virtual) IES 2021 Annual Conference.

“The work really has been the reward,” says Carroll. “I didn’t expect to make life-long friends, peers, mentors, who generously shared their knowledge and provided unconditional support, guidance, laughter, and dancing…during this memorable journey of a career.”

Carroll was lauded for her team building, organizational skills, and passion to imbue a sense of inclusion which have contributed significantly to the IES. Most notably, as a five-time chair of the IESNYC Lumen Awards, she has heightened the prestige and visibility of the program which is underscored with a strong sense of community. Carroll has spoken at numerous industry events including LightFair, Strategies in Light, LEDucation, Build Boston, Enlighten Americas and the 2020 DOE+IES Lighting R&D Workshop. She was also the keynote speaker for the 2018 IESNYC Student Lighting Competition. Her stewardship as chair of the Annual Conference 2018, 2019 and the Illumination Awards program have been instrumental in guiding the Society to realize its business objectives while instilling a call to action among members. Carroll is also a founding member of WILD (Women in Lighting + Design).

In addition to serving as president of the IESNYC, she also works at Illuminations, Inc., in specification sales.

The DSA is given in recognition of service to the Society, principally of a nontechnical nature, having significantly furthered the purpose for which the Society was founded, and continued over a number of years in various programs and activities at, typically, regional, and international levels.
