IALD Reschedules 2020 Enlighten Conferences Due to Ongoing Coronavirus Concerns

May 12, 2020
The Enlighten conferences will return in 2021 with Enlighten Americas 2021 in Banff, AB, Canada from Oct. 21-23, 2021. The IALD is currently exploring options for delivering some of the content from both Americas and Europe 2020 conferences online.

The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is rescheduling its 2020 Enlighten conferences due to continued concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainties around what the situation will be in October and November of 2020. IALD has decided to move both the Enlighten Americas in October in Palm Springs, CA USA, and Enlighten Europe in November in Oslo, Norway, to 2022 in the same locations in the same cities.

The Enlighten conferences will return in 2021 with Enlighten Americas 2021 in the scenic mountain destination of Banff, AB Canada from 21-23 October 2021. IALD will host Enlighten Americas 2022 in the picturesque Palm Springs, CA USA from 29 September to 1 October 2022, and dates are being finalized for Enlighten Europe 2022, which will be held in breathtaking Oslo, Norway in November 2022.

“While rescheduling Enlighten Americas and Enlighten Europe 2020 was a difficult decision to make, over the past two months it has become clear it is the right thing to do for our members, for IALD, and for the larger community we serve,” states CEO Marsha L. Turner, CAE. “As a global organization that is built around community and connections—both locally and globally—the IALD’s priority is the health and safety of our members, sponsors and attendees. This was a major consideration in the decision to move both 2020 conferences to 2022.”

“IALD’s Enlighten conferences have always focused on lighting designers and those passionate about lighting design. Moving the conferences is the best action to take as responsible leaders who care about our greater lighting community,” says IALD President Douglas Leonard, IALD. “In these difficult times it is more important than ever that we leverage our professional connections. Through IALD, we can rely on our lighting design community to support and strengthen each other in these times of change.”

The IALD is currently exploring options for delivering some of the content from both 2020 conferences online. Additional updates from IALD will be available at iald.org. The call for presentations for Enlighten Americas 2021 in Banff, AB Canada will open in October 2020.
