St. Louis Blues and Nevco renew partnership with video display and scoring solutions at Centene Community Ice Center

Aug. 12, 2019

GREENVILLE, IL – The 2019 Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues and the St. Louis Legacy Ice Foundation have renewed a partnership with Nevco to bring Video Display and Scoring Solutions to the Blues’ new 277,000 square-foot practice facility, the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, MO.

The new facility is slated to open in September and will feature four NHL-sized ice surfaces including one outdoor rink, designed as a multi-purpose venue for concerts, festivals, and various other events. Additionally, the Centene Community Ice Center will offer several sports related medical services on-site as well as retail and restaurant spaces in the concourses. The facility will be the new home for the St. Louis Blues Alumni, Lindenwood University hockey, St. Louis AAA Blues program, St. Louis Lady Cyclones, and the practice facility for the St. Louis Blues.

The Blues and Nevco have an extensive history of partnership dating back 52 years to the Blues inaugural season in 1967. Nevco engineered and manufactured a four-face scoreboard hung above center ice in the St. Louis Arena (known as the Checkerdome from 1977 to 1983). The original Nevco scoreboard was used in the arena through 1994, the Blues final season before moving to their current home. More recently, Nevco partnered with the Blues to bring a pair of Model 4711 scoreboards to The Ice Zone, their current practice facility in Hazelwood, MO.

“Thinking back to the start of my hockey ‘career’ some forty-five years ago and ever since to this day, when I think about all my penalties, my handful of garbage goals and watching the time wind down on my last game coaching, Nevco is the one constant lighting up all those memories,” said Patrick Quinn, chairman of the St. Louis Legacy Ice Foundation.  “From the C-9 light bulbs back in my early days to today’s LEDs and the gorgeous four-screen video board hanging at the Centene Community Ice Center, Nevco has the broadest offering and best technology for an incredibly varied four-sheet facility.  From our 2,500 seat arena to our covered outdoor sheet to our NHL practice facility to our community rink we needed four completely different approaches and Nevco had it all.”

The main rink at the Centene Community Ice Center will serve as the home of the Lindenwood University men’s and women’s hockey teams with 2,500 seats surrounding the ice surface. Commanding the attention of fans as they enter the arena will be a state-of-the-art four-sided, full color 6mm Nevco LED Video Display hung above center ice, stretching nearly 7’H and extending over 11’W. The center-hung video display is designed with more than 716,000 eye-catching pixels providing unmatched clarity and brilliance from any viewing angle inside the arena.

The video display will be operated through the use of Nevco’s proprietary Display Director™ Software, enabling game-day operations to be easily managed through one universal system. Game-days will be electrified with the powerful software which can be utilized to showcase live in-game action, instant replays, animated graphics, sponsorship messages, and more!

Below and between each side of the video displays are illuminated signage and custom imprinted illuminated wedge panels, all showcasing sponsors. Under the structure sits a custom imprinted bottom, prominently displaying the Centene Community Ice Center logo.

The main arena will provide an elite game-day environment equipped with 14’ of rear-lit scorers tables on the press deck, Nevco’s goal light system, a Model 9710 indoor timer/clock, and three Model 9715 locker room clocks for player and referee locker rooms.

“With the Blues winning the Stanley Cup this year, the sport of hockey is rapidly growing in the St. Louis area. We are beyond thrilled to be able to partner with the Centene Community Ice Center to provide a thrilling game-day experience and help grow the game for boys and girls right in Nevco’s backyard,” said Dillon Brasher, Nevco Sports Video Sales Consultant

The other three rinks at the center, including the practice facility for the St. Louis Blues with seating for 800+ people in rink two, will be furnished with Model 4711 scoreboards, Nevco’s goal light systems, Model 9710 indoor timer/clocks, MPCX2 wireless handheld controllers, and MPCW-7 controllers. Additionally, rink two will be set up with a press deck complete with 14’ of rear-lit static scorers tables.

The Centene Community Ice Center is the only four-sheet facility within 500+ miles, and will be a prime destination for hockey tournaments and other ice sports, drawing families and players from across the world. Driven by the St. Louis Blues Stanley Cup Championship and the Hockey STL 2020 Campaign, youth hockey in the St. Louis region is growing exponentially for both boys and girls.

The grand opening of the Centene Community Ice Center and the debut of the Nevco Video Display and Scoring Solutions is billed for September 7, 2019. Check out the winning rendering photo below and be sure to come back to www.nevco.com to see the live install photos!
