BIOS Lighting Receives UL Verification for Circadian Lighting Solutions

World-class Third-party Evaluation Validates BIOS’ Claim for Blue Spectrum Peak Emission at 490 Nanometers

CARLSBAD, Calif. - BIOS Lighting, a recognized innovator in the biological application of LED lighting, announced it has received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Verification, confirming its solutions are designed for circadian health, wellness and productivity. UL Verification is an objective, science-based assessment confirming the accuracy and validity of product claims.

Most LED lighting technologies have a trough in the wavelength spectrum (490nm) that emits good blue light as a “sky blue” color, which reflects the peak sensitivity of melanopsin, a photopigment dedicated to circadian health. As a result, they fail to communicate daytime to our bodies and misalign our circadian rhythm. BIOS Lighting on the other hand, develops lighting solutions infused with its proprietary SkyBlue® technology to specifically pinpoint this key wavelength.

After evaluation, BIOS’ SkyBlue® lighting solution has officially passed UL Verification for Blue Spectrum Peak Emission at 490nm, further validating its mission to design lighting solutions for circadian health, wellness and happiness. Paired with meeting the circadian lighting portions of the WELL Building Standard, BIOS SkyBlue® lighting solutions offer a true circadian solution without having to sacrifice color temperature.

“The lighting industry is finally embracing the notion that spectrum is more important than color, and that wavelengths are a crucial element in developing true circadian solutions. While some companies claim its color-tuning technologies are beneficial, without the proper scientific basis, you are offering nothing more than a placebo,” says Robert Soler vice president of research at BIOS. “Having the UL Verification is another layer of security for our partners, enabling them to have confidence our lighting solutions are truly unmatched by other LED lighting providers. We have always designed with a biology-first approach and having third-party validation fuels our desire to continue creating unique circadian lighting solutions that positively impact mental and biological health.”

Robert Soler and BIOS Lighting will also be exhibiting and speaking at Lightfair International, May 21-23, 2019:

  • Exhibitor booth: #2653
  • Light & Health Forum, May 22: Non-visual Effects of Light for Education, 5:30-6:30 p.m. EDT
