Chinese lighting show adding a second LED exhibit hall in 2009

To complement the growing interest in the China LED market, the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition is expanding its LED component this year.
The 14th annual Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition to be held June 9-12, 2009 at the China Import and Export Fair, Pazhou Complex, in Guangzhou, China, is focusing more on LEDs this year by adding a second dedicated hall. The LED booths were very popular last year, perhaps due in part to the expanding LED market in China. Annual sales growth of China’s LED lighting display and LED landscape lighting between 2006 and 2010 is expected to be 19% and 37%, respectively. The LED normal brightness market still ranks as the number one choice, while the market for high-brightness and super-high brightness LED shows great potential.

China lighting product demand is being fueled by economic growth. In 2007, sales were US$22 billion, up by nearly 30% from the previous year. Imports of lamps and lighting fixtures were almost US$162 million, an increase of nearly 32% compared to 2006 due to consumers wanting well-designed classical, modern and contemporary lighting.

All of this bodes well for the show, and for the LED component in particular.

"Our first ever LED-themed hall proved so popular that we are adding a second LED hall for exhibitors and this includes a special new zone for LED advertising lamps," said Lucia Wong, group trade fair manager, Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong. "What’s more, to meet the fast growing demand for lighting products, we are including new product groups such as emergency lighting, solar power lights, crystal lights, incandescent lamps and discharge lamps."

In general, the exhibition showcases a comprehensive range of technical and exterior lighting, decorative lighting, professional lights, electric lights, accessories and components for architects, building planners, lighting retailers and wholesalers.

Last year there were 1,539 exhibitors from 21 countries, an increase of 25% compared to 2007. The total exhibition space was 106,000 sqm, spread across 10 halls. To facilitate large visitor numbers, the fair was staged on two levels.

The fair offered three Brand Name halls housing global lighting companies such as Osram, Philips, Samsung and Thorn Lighting.

Last year’s show broke attendance records by attracting more than 48,000 visitors from 96 countries and regions, an increase of 7% from the previous year. Overseas visitor numbers increased by 3% to more than 10,000 and domestic visitors rose by 8% to nearly 38,000.

As there was last year, a Lighting Technology Symposium will be held with specialized seminars for different lighting industry groups, organized in conjunction with industry associations and international consulates and trade commissions.
