Healthcare settings vary greatly in terms of their primary purpose, from clinical examinations to in-patient care rooms, nursing stations, imaging and surgical suites, and more. Lighting, signage, and displays must be designed to withstand robust cleaning as well as unique environmental conditions such as in an MRI suite, while providing quality light engineered for visual acuity, comfort, and precision. Many designs now also take into account the need for tunable spectrum that helps support patient and care provider wellbeing.

LIGHTGLASS simulated windows and skylights, LIGHTGLASS

UL-listed lighting systems offer the appearance of a window or skylight. The LED light engine delivers 94+ CRI light with an R9 value of 65+, UGR <12, no perceptible flicker, uniformity greater than 89%, and an L70 rating of over 100,000 hours. LIGHTGLASS offers a color temperature range from 2200K to 6500K, with a single static CCT or dynamic tunable white for recreating a solar day pattern. Systems can be installed as standalone units or in arrays within a wall or ceiling. Luminous flux ranges from 841 to 12,835 lm.

MedMaster narrow-spectrum downlights, Kenall

MedMaster narrow-spectrum, sealed, recessed luminaires utilize a native green LED source with 530 nm nominal peak wavelength for improved visual acuity in operating suites. Downlights are available in 4-inch round and square apertures, with IP-rated regressed or flush lens trims options and various reflector finishes. All exposed painted surfaces are finished with antimicrobial coating. The serviceable constant-current driver enables standard 0–10V dimming with 1–100% range and dim-to-dark capabilities; DALI-2 control is optional without dim-to-dark. Estimated L70 lifetime is 60,000 hr.

BioUp melanopic lighting portfolio, Cooper Lighting Solutions

BioUp technology integrates a biologically active cyan peak (melanopic light in the range of 450–530 nm) mixed in the LED spectrum of a lineup of troffers, panels, downlights, and cylinders to promote circadian entrainment. Sealed, vandal-resistant housings are suited to use in behavioral health environments. A static, spectrally enhanced option is suited to applications with predominantly daytime usage, while a dynamic tunable and spectrally enhanced option supports daytime and nighttime usage for occupants in settings such as healthcare facilities. Combined with WaveLinx digital controls, melanopic light output is varied throughout the day without requiring increases in light levels or energy consumption.

BalancedCare Flexible Ambient recessed luminaires, Axis Lighting

Available in general diffuse and wide distributions, 1×1, 2×2, 1×4, and 2×4 recessed luminaires feature a low profile with a 4-inch deep housing. The BeWell light guide directs light from each point source, eliminating transition lines, pixelation, and shadows. The entire optical chamber can be removed with a lens tool for modular replacement plus tool-less driver change-out. The center strip housing of the controls- and sensor-ready luminaires can be customized with backlighting, accent lighting, color, or texture. Multiple CCTs (3000K, 3500K, and 4000K), 2700–5000K tunable white, and BIOS static and SkyBlue circadian options are available.

HLER exam room light, Healthcare Lighting

The flush-mount HLER combines an inner disk and outer ring for three lighting modes (up to 8,000 lm; 2,000 lm; and 10,000 lm combined) in a choice of three CCTs for ambient lighting and exam scenarios. The luminaire delivers indirect/direct illumination in ambulatory care, dental care, physiotherapy, medical consulting, and pediatric facilities. The inner and outer rings can be set to separate CCTs. The exam light is compatible with Acuity’s DC2DC low-voltage architecture. It can be integrated with nLight controls or controlled via DALI or 0–10V systems.
