Sensity Systems and Genetec to offer LED-based IoT public safety and security system

April 22, 2016
The Two Companies’ Video Security Solution has been Adopted By Kansas City to Monitor the City’s New Streetcar Line

SAN DIEGO – Sensity Systems Inc., provider of a leading Internet of Things (IoT) platform for Smart Cities, and Genetec Inc. “Genetec”, a leading manufacturer of open-platform, unified IP security solutions, have announced that the two companies will offer an advanced IoT public safety and security solution. Sensity and Genetec will demonstrate their solution in Booth #537 at the San Diego Convention Center at LIGHTFAIR International (LFI), being held from April 26 to 28. The companies also announced that Kansas City, Missouri is deploying the solution to monitor its new streetcar line.

The IoT smart city security solution incorporates Sensity® Video Nodes, integrated with LED lights, communicating over Wi-Fi to the Genetec™ Security Center video management system (VMS) with intelligent analytics enabled on the Sensity Video Node. In addition to analytics, the Video Node can record high resolution and low-resolution streams from each of its two cameras and maintain the storage at the edge—leveraging the Genetec Edge Protocol—to be retrieved as needed.

“The significance of this particular IoT security solution is the ability for the Sensity Video Nodes, using the Genetec Edge Protocol, to maintain sensitive video data at the network edge, on the device itself, rather than transporting data back to a central location,” said Stefano Landi, vice president of Sales and Partners at Sensity. “This shift in where the intelligence resides makes possible ‘Security Without Surveillance’—safeguarding citizens’ privacy through edge-based storage and analytics, while freeing human security personnel from having to watch security video screens all the time.”

“The combination of Sensity Video Nodes and the Genetec Security Center VMS creates a more effective and seamless solution for video security and public safety applications,” said Philippe Ouimette, director of Strategic Alliances at Genetec Inc. “It also enables cities, municipalities, airports and shopping malls to adopt this advanced IoT video security at a far lower cost than traditional video surveillance systems.”

Kansas City is deploying 250 Sensity NetSense™ cameras, connecting to a Genetec Omnicast VMS, to monitor a new streetcar line in the city’s downtown area. The IoT video security system, including the cameras, is being deployed at a fraction of the cost of a traditional wired video security system. In addition, Kansas City did not have to purchase additional on-premises storage equipment to run its new security system, because the Sensity IoT platform stores video data on devices located at the network edge.

Demonstration at LIGHTFAIR – April 26-28 in San Diego – Sensity Booth #537
Throughout its LIGHTFAIR booth, Sensity will showcase joint partner solutions, such as the Sensity and Genetec advanced IoT public safety and security solution that leverages the NetSense platform as a foundational element. Additional demonstrations will include Smart+Connected Communities, Smart Parking and Traffic Management, and more for malls, cities and parking areas.
