Osram Opto Semiconductors prepares LED product lineup for Light+Building

March 3, 2016
This year at Light + Building Osram Opto Semiconductors is presenting its products and applications at two booths instead of one. In the Festhalle (Hall 2.0/booth B50) the company is showcasing new applications for various infrared light emitting diodes (LEDs) , such as eye tracking, iris scanning and gesture recognition, in keeping with the slogan “Welcome to Smart City”. And at booth C04 in Hall 6.2 the focus is on LED components for general lighting. Osram is therefore presenting a broad LED product portfolio for a wide variety of applications at the fair that offers more choice, more flexibility, more quality and more efficiency for its customers. The Soleriq S 9 Chip-on-Board (CoB) LED is the latest addition to the portfolio.

Over the past few months Osram Opto Semiconductors has significantly expanded its product portfolio for general lighting. As a result it has increased the number of options for the customers and can now offer them greater flexibility for designing their lighting solutions. To achieve this, the high-tech company has once again improved the efficiency, quality, costs, materials and processes of its products. In particular, it has made use of the synergies of the Duris, Soleriq and Oslon production platforms, and these are having a positive effect on the cost efficiency of the processes.

With the launch of the Soleriq S 9 LED at the end of March 2016 a new member will be added to the general lighting portfolio of Osram Opto Semiconductors. With a smaller light emitting surface (LES) of 9.8 mm in diameter the S 9 further simplifies the design of the optics and enables more compact luminaires to be created. Like its sister CoBs, the Soleriq S 13 and S 19, the new version features high efficacy of about 140 lm/W and will be available in the high color quality versions of Brilliant Color and Brilliant White. While Soleriq S 19 delivers high light output in the 6,500 lm range from 19 mm, Soleriq S 13 LED covers the mid-range of up to 3,250 lm with an LES of 13.5 mm. Overall, the Soleriq S LED range provides customers with a broad selection covering a wide range of applications from high lumen and high efficacy floodlights to very narrow beam and professional high-quality spotlights.

Quality in every respect is a key factor for Osram Opto Semiconductors. For example the company improved the quality of light and the quality of colors by introducing “Brilliant White” and “Brilliant Color” LEDs in 2015. White binning of LEDs is a major topic on the general lighting market since these small light sources are penetrating this market segment. During Light + Building, Osram will be presenting its insights and its new approaches to this quality aspect.
