Saskatoon Light and Power selects LED Roadway Lighting Ltd fixtures

Date Announced: 06 Apr 2011 The City of Saskatoon, through their electric utility Saskatoon Light & Power (SL&P), has selected LED Roadway Lighting Ltd (LRL) fixtures for installation in the new Evergreen residential development. The installation of LRL Satellite Series fixtures will result in an estimated energy savings of $515,111, and maintenance savings of $410,580, over the 20 year life of the fixtures.In addition to the energy and maintenance savings, it is expected that the installation will result in a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction of 2,507 tonnes over a 20 year period and will save 155,700 kWh (kilowatt hours) in electricity usage.The award comes after a pilot project on Boychuk Drive, in which a number of LED street lighting manufacturers were evaluated. SL&P evaluated photometric performance, colour temperature, energy savings, ease of installation, durability and longevity prior to issuing a tender for this larger installation. SL&P owns and maintains approximately 20,000 street lights in the city. A total of 250 Satellite Series SAT-S fixtures will be installed this spring.
