Minnesota city partners with Silvermere Lighting to replace HPS cobra-head fixtures with LED street lights

May 22, 2015
The City of Circle Pines Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis, has partnered with Silvermere Lighting to replace several 150 watt high-pressure sodium (HPS) cobra-head street lights with new 60 watt LED street lights that keep the traditional cobra-head appearance but use an active-cooled 60 watt LED solstice as the light source, delivering pure white light with a Type III beam optic for efficient roadway and parking lot distribution.

The city has so far replaced HPS lights with the LED street lights for the city hall parking lot and surrounding roadways. The result is better quality of light for improved visibility and uniformity, with more than 60% reduction of electricity.

The 60 watt LED solstice is 5 inches diameter, made in the USA, has a lifespan over 100,000 hours, and comes with a 10 year warranty.
