Eindhoven, The Netherlands - Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) announced that they entered into a patent license agreement with TCP International Holdings LTD and that the two companies have agreed to settle and dismiss the patent infringement lawsuit that was pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. The royalty-bearing license provides TCP and its affiliates with full, worldwide access to the Philips’ LED-related patented technologies that Philips makes available to the lighting industry through its LED Luminaire and Retrofit Bulb licensing program.

This license agreement with TCP follows earlier agreements between Philips and more than 325 companies including, amongst others, lighting companies such as Acuity Brands, Cooper Lighting, Trilux, Osram, Cree, Zumtobel and Paulmann. Philips’ licensing program includes many LED luminaire and bulb-related inventions of Philips. Philips aims to speed up market adoption and growth of LED-based products by making available its market-leading patented LED luminaire and retrofit bulb technologies to third parties.
