Cree XLamp LEDs illuminate Beta LED fixtures

A series of outdoor lighting fixtures from Beta Lighting are built around cool-white power LEDs from Cree.
LED manufacturer Cree is supplying XLamp XR-E LEDs for a new line of high-performance outdoor lighting fixtures from Beta LED.

The luminaires were presented at Lightfair in May, and feature in LEDs Magazine's extensive report on the tradeshow – see LED lighting shows maturity at Lightfair.

The Edge line of LED luminaires is designed for street, parking lot, parking garage, walkway and building-mounted applications. "The Edge line sets new performance standards for outdoor LED lighting fixtures,' said Al Ruud, founder and president of Beta LED. "We knew that to produce the best LED fixtures we had to start with the right LED."

Rudd says that Beta LED was looking for high brightness, efficiency, reliability, color stability and high-volume production. "We chose Cree XLamp LEDs for this innovative new line because of their commitment to producing the highest-performing LEDs in the industry.'

Ruud added, ``Robustness and reliability are also important issues for us. We have tested The Edge fixtures in extremely hot, cold and humid environments with zero failures.'

The Beta LED fixtures contain a number of Light Bar modules, each sealed against moisture penetration. The fixture itself has an open construction to allow circulating air to assist with heat removal.

"Beta LED has shown what can be achieved when you leverage the multiple benefits of XLamp LED technology into an optimized system," said Norbert Hiller, Cree vice president and general manager for lighting LEDs.

"The result, as demonstrated by the new Beta LED products, is a product of extraordinary performance and quality. We are delighted Beta LED chose the Cree XR-E LED for their new, breakthrough product line."
