LEDs installed by Podiatry Insurance Company of America provide savings and superior lighting

Solid-state lighting (SSL) fixtures from LED North America have been installed in the parking garage of the Podiatry Insurance Company of America (PICA). The parking garage is now lit by 30 LED North America Manhattan Parking Garage lights. The goal of the lighting project was to reduce energy consumption, simplify maintenance, and provide a better lighting environment.

”We are very pleased with the enhanced light quality in our parking garage,” said JC Blakely, a certified facility manager (CFM) and facilities director for PICA. “We believe we are the first parking garage in Williamson County to be completely illuminated using LED lighting.

The Manhattan lights from LED North America were selected in part because of their graphite foam technology that provides thermal management and extends their operating life while reducing energy use. The lights have an efficacy of 86 lm/W. Long life was especially important because many of the existing fixtures were located above parking spaces making maintenance problematic.

The lumen output of the Manhattan fixtures and a broad beam pattern also allowed PICA to reduce the number of fixtures in stalled by 40%. That further reduced maintenance and energy costs.

Exterior lighting

In addition to upgrading the internal lighting, PICA replaced the 142 fluorescent fixtures that surround the perimeter of the garage and the entryway to the building with LED replacement tubes.

Overall, the new lights have reduced PICA’s energy costs for the parking garage by 76%, which is more than $13,500 each year. Not only is money saved in energy costs, but the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is paying PICA an almost $15,000 incentive to offset the initial cost of the lighting and installation. Because of this, the project will pay itself off in just 13 months.

"LED lighting makes great economic and environmental sense,” said Andry Geshwiler, vice president of sales and marketing for LED North America. “The support from TVA and the federal government is there to help offset costs. Our LED fixtures will improve the light quality for your employees and enhance safety and productivity while at the same time reducing energy bills and maintenance expenses.”
