Automotive and LED lighting companies Hella Industries and Hellux become Lunux

Aug. 10, 2016
In future HELLUX and HELLA Industries, both specializing in professional lighting, will operate jointly as LUNUX GmbH. In June of this year, the Wünsche Group and HELLUX bought the street and industrial lighting business (HELLA Industries) from the automotive supplier HELLA with the aim of uniting HELLUX and HELLA Industries to become a leading market player. The common name is the first external step in this direction. LUNUX unites the perfectly complementary expertise and competencies of both lighting specialists, thus becoming a smart system provider of professional lighting solutions for industrial, commercial, and municipal purposes. The two brands HELLUX and HELLA Industries will continue under the umbrella organization LUNUX.
Following the completion of the purchase contract on this day and the previously obtaining the approvals from the antitrust authorities, HELLA Industries and HELLUX will in future operate under the name LUNUX. With this merger, LUNUX is able to offer a focused, but comprehensive range of lights, as well as complex lighting systems and concepts for different needs, industries, and sectors. LUNUX will focus in particular on future technologies such as modular LED lighting technology, smart and intelligent lighting control, energy efficiency, and the trend of decorative lighting.

“The comprehensiveness of the assortment and combining of the expertise of two lighting specialists make LUNUX an attractive and strong partner in terms of lighting for industry and municipalities. Intelligent and networked lighting solutions for industrial and special applications or the smart city concept —LUNUX is able to offer customized lighting concepts based on innovative technology,” said Mathias Schmidt, CEO of LUNUX. And further: “On this occasion I wish to express my appreciation and thanks to all employees. You have done a great job in the last few weeks! At the upcoming company party we will show our appreciation for this performance and also warmly welcome all employees to LUNUX.”

With approximately 150 employees and sales in the mid double-digit million range, LUNUX will be considered a medium-size company. Seat of the company and the production site in Germany will be Laatzen by Hannover, the previous HELLUX site. The remainder of the HELLA Industries production facility in Lippstadt will be successively relocated to Laatzen by the end of 2016. Approximately 30 employees will work at a sales and development office in Lippstadt at their own request. The needs of employees were extensively taken into account during the integration process; all employees could keep their jobs.

“We have developed a detailed plan to merge both production areas. Our common production site in Laatzen will give our customers particularly advantageous synergies,” says Katrin Kroese-Discher, Head of Marketing and Sales of LUNUX. And further: “With LUNUX, we want to develop new lighting perspectives for our customers, from whom we have incidentally also received much positive feedback. Both our HELLUX and HELLA Industries customers recognize that united, the two lighting specialists will be more sustainable and innovative.”

Almost all the usual contacts will remain for existing HELLUX and HELLA Industries customers who are now part of the same team and look together into the future. LUNUX will establish itself as a conceptual and strategic service provider for its customers.

A common website (www.lunux-lighting.com) as well as sales and information documents will follow by the end of 2016. The previous sites of HELLUX and HELLA Industries will be online until that time and offer customers or interested parties comprehensive information on the product and service portfolio.
LUNUX will have its first public appearance in October at the belektro in Berlin. This exhibition will be used by LUNUX as a communication forum and to introduce itself personally to the market. Moreover, current highlights from the new product range will be presented.
The company will be at the dena Roadshow in Berlin (September 20, 2016) and Regensburg (October 27, 2016) to advise and inform local authorities on energy-efficient, technical, and decorative street lighting. The roadshow was initiated together with local umbrella associations, utilities providers, as well as manufacturers and operators of street lighting.
