Welcome to LEDs Magazine’s News & Insights for July 12, 2023. Improving outdoor lighting and implementing dark-sky friendly practices and technologies is a hot topic, as evidenced by public interest and new product launches such as the latest offering announced by Lumileds. The LED solutions developer says that its new NightScape technology reduces blue light emission below strict requirements set out by the local authorities in Maui, who seek to preserve the natural environment and ecodiversity of the island for all inhabitants and tourists. Such ordinances may set a precedent for outdoor lighting to come under greater scrutiny. Only time will tell if reduced blue-light content becomes another factor in product design, making its way into datasheets as a norm.
