For those seeking a solution to controlling germs in public areas, Vital Vio has created technology that helps hospitals, airports, schools, daycares, and other high traffic spaces. Vital Vio’s new disinfection technology, melded with Build-2-Specification lighting from PMC Lighting, will allow a variety of companies to install customized germ-fighting LED fixtures.

Germs, and the illnesses they cause, affect more than just health. Sick days pull workers and students from their jobs and schools, and can affect the economy and lower productivity. A recent study by The Integrated Benefits Institute,  says that “lost productivity” from employee absentee due to illness costs the US Economy $227 Billion per year. In addition, these illnesses can be deadly for those with compromised immune systems. This technology can help  create healthier indoor spaces.

How Does It Work?

Vital Vio LEDs emit an attractive, truly white light that is safe for humans, pets, and plants. The VioSafe® White Light Disinfection® technology continuously protects environments from harmful bacteria using wavelengths of visible light in the 400-450 nm range, which cause bacterial cell death but have no harmful effect on humans. It creates a truly pleasing, white light, that looks like ordinary light, but multi-tasks to disinfect and illuminate indoor spaces.

When combined with traditional cleaning methods in hospitals, homes, public spaces, and workplaces, Vital Vio’s LEDs safely, effectively, and continuously kill harmful organisms on indoor surfaces.

“We have continually made investments in equipment, people, and processes so that we can be innovative and responsive to the changing needs of our customers,” says PMC Lighting CFO Jason Goldstein.  “By incorporating this amazing technology into our product offerings, it allows us to maintain our reputation for innovative design, quality craftsmanship and creative adaptability, further defining our role as a true lighting solutions provider.”

“PMC Lighting is a natural addition to our portfolio of lighting manufacturer partners.  We share a culture of innovation and a focus on delighting customers,” says Vital Vio Vice President of Commercialization, Kristin May.  “Together, we will provide customers with unique solutions – the most advanced visible light disinfection technology delivered within beautiful custom and semi-custom lighting fixtures.  It’s a great pairing and we are confident customers will quickly see the value and reap the benefits.”

With bacteria becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics, this type of light technology is welcome news. Vital Vio holds several U.S. Patents for this much needed and innovative technology and there are several more patents pending.

The partnership between Vital Vio and PMC Lighting is a natural fit. PMC has long been considered a pioneer in the design community for their custom and semi-custom lighting fixtures that make it easy for a designer to play with light, color, and shape. Now with Vital Vio’s technological advancement combining with PMC’s focus on building to specifications, reducing contamination and infection risk can meet the desired specifications and design styles of hospitals, airports, gyms, and other public spaces.
