Date Announced: 25 Jul 2013 Nearly 4,000 Autobahn LED Series roadway luminaires reduce outdoor street lighting energy consumption for the City of Chula Vista by 45 percent. ATLANTA – July 25, 2013 – The City of Chula Vista, Calif. installed nearly 4,000 American Electric Lighting® Autobahn LED Series roadway luminaires from Acuity Brands (NYSE: AYI) to help reduce energy and maintenance costs for the growing city. Autobahn LED Series roadway luminaires now illuminate major arteries, feeder roads and the City’s downtown area, helping to reduce energy consumption attributed to lighting by more than 45 percent. The City of Chula Vista installed a combination of 140-watt Autobahn ATB2 Series LED luminaires, to replace a 250-watt HPS cobrahead lighting system, and 70-watt Autobahn ATB0 Series LED luminaires, to replace its 150-watt high pressure sodium (HPS) units. Southern Contracting, a California-based electrical construction contractor, conducted the installation and shared positive feedback on the performance and appearance of the Autobahn LED luminaires. “The Autobahn LED luminaires are aesthetically pleasing and they do the job. And, the quality of the light is apparent,” said Jim Filanc, director of business development for Southern Contracting.Autobahn LED Series luminaires zero uplight feature help the City meet the guidelines required by the Dark Sky Ordinance of Chula Vista’s neighboring city of San Diego. Autobahn LED Series luminaires use photocell controls to eliminate day burning and limit operation to approximately 4,150 hours per year, or approximately 11 hours per day. This duration is the standard operating average established for the region by San Diego Gas & Electric. Additionally, the luminaires are adaptive control ready, giving the City an option to use a street lighting monitoring system in the future to further maximize energy and maintenance savings.
