Date Announced: 01 Jul 2011 -- Pennsylvania Manufacturer Selected in Innovative Energy SavingRelighting Project for the City of Welland, Ontario-- Appalachian Lighting Systems, Inc. supports collaborative projectto save millions in energy costs(Ellwood City, PA) -- In what is believed to be the most comprehensive, city-wide re-lighting project of its kind in North America, Appalachian Lighting Systems, Inc. (ALSI) was selected by the City of Welland, Ontario, to manufacture and deliver 6,710 ALLED™ Brand light emitting diode (LED) lighting fixtures for installation throughout the city. Each LED lighting fixture will include ALSI’s unique, built-in ALLink™ management and control system. During a Council meeting held Tuesday evening (June 28), the Welland City Council unanimously carried a motion to move forward with the project. According to the Staff report to Welland Council, upon completion in 2012, the project is expected to deliver to the city at least 3.5 million kilowatt-hours in energy savings every year as well as offset almost 3.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide each year. This will translate to annual energy savings of 76% throughout the 20 year lifespan of the LED fixtures.“SSL Energy Solutions (SSLES), a sister organization with ALSI, assembled a financing and maintenance program that allows this project to be completed with no up-front capital costs required from the city,” said Tanya Rings, SSLES Vice President of Program Operations. “The cost of the re-lighting project,” she said, “will be paid for by the energy savings yielded on a year-to-year basis.” Switching to LED lights is projected to save the city more than $300,000 annually.
