Date Announced: 09 Feb 2011 Eschborn 9 February 2011 – Verbatim will reveal the world’s firstcommercially available, organic LED (OLED) lighting panels that arecolour tunable, white tone tunable and dimmable during the Fuori Salone show in Milan from April 12-17. Verbatim will be located at Design Library srl, Via Savona 11, 20144 Milan. The company’s OLED display will be created by lighting designer Satoshi Uchihara, who has designed World Heritage Site installations, such as Kinkakuji, in Kyoto, Japan.The display will incorporate one of the world’s largest OLED panels* at approximately 14cm x 14cm.Called VELVE, Verbatim OLEDs produce high quality, soft and colourfullighting with a luxurious feel. They enable lighting designers toexpress their creativity in many different physical forms, includingwalls of light. By tuning the colour and intensity of light, theemotional impact of the lighting scheme can be changed to reflect themood required for the environment. For example, bright, white light may be desirable in the morning but more subdued, relaxing lighting with muted colours may be preferable towards the end of the day.The OLEDs are based on unique materials technology developed byMitsubishi Chemical Group, to which Verbatim belongs. More details ofthe printable hole injecting material (HIM) technology will beannounced at the show.In partnership with the Roman design school ISIA, Verbatim will beannouncing the results of a design competition during the event. Called “6th Sense” the project was set up in September 2010 to help Italian design students think about lighting in new ways and to help them understand the emotional, as well as the technical, possibilities that OLED lighting is going to bring to the world of interior design.
