Eiffel Tower 120-year anniversary celebration lit with Iluminarc LEDs

Oct. 27, 2009
Date Announced: 27 Oct 2009 PARIS -- Less than a year after its inception, Hollywood, FL-based Iluminarc has nailed a dream, high profile installation: the Eiffel Tower. More than 400 Ilumipod 48 IP RGBW wash lights have been installed on the tower to exclusively perform newly unveiled dynamic lighting shows, the culmination of the monument’s 120-year anniversary celebration. Relying for the first time on state-of-the-art LED technology, the Trocadero façade of the tower lights up in color, movement and modulation offering a magical and multi-facetted shower of light, revolving from level to level… “a splendid tribute to the Eiffel tower and its majestic structure,” according to a statement by SETE, the operating company of the Eiffel Tower. The rhythmic, color blending shows, kicked off on Oct. 2, run for 12 minutes each, every hour between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. (2 p.m. - 5 p.m. EST).The mesmerizing light displays will run through Dec. 31.In addition to the innovative lighting possibilities, the technology behind the Ilumipod 48 IP lights delivers high performance at low energy consumption levels, lower than those of traditional lighting fixtures already used to light the Tower. Indeed, SETE has taken numerous concrete steps toward energy saving solutions. Among them: a green electricity contract, light bulb changes in 2005 that reduced energy consumption by 30% and system software that controls the hours of lighting and heating. The light show design was by Bernard Schmitt and Jacques Rouveyrollis, implemented by Citelum with Magnum. Eiffage Group is sponsoring this celebration of the Eiffel Tower’s 120 year anniversary. While Iluminarc’s parent company, Chauvet & Sons. Inc., has been in business for more than two decades and owns CHAUVET, a leading brand in entertainment lighting, Iluminarc was launched in May, 2009. It has since garnered a variety of accolades and high profile projects including the Van Berkel and Zara Hadid pavilions in Chicago and the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dallas. The Ilumipod 48 IP lights used for the Eiffel Tower were sold by CSI, a major distributor of architectural and entertainment lighting in France.
