Radiant Imaging introduces comprehensive solution for LED video screen appearance optimization

June 16, 2009
Date Announced: 16 Jun 2009 -- Radiant Imaging’s Vision system provides a complete set of capabilities for achieving and maintaining optimal visual performance throughout the life of an LED video screenRedmond, WA –- Radiant Imaging, the worldwide leader in CCD based imaging systems for color and light measurement, today announces the introduction of a complete set of measurement systems, software, and services for optimizing LED video screen appearance over the complete life of the screen – from manufacturing through deployment in the field. The components of the Vision system – VisionCAL™, VisionLINK™, VisionMATCH™, and VisionTUNE™ – address the needs of LED screen owners, users, and manufacturers to realize the best possible visual appearance for their LED digital signage in any application environment: in sports stadiums and arenas, on advertising billboards, on mobile displays, and more.LEDs vary in performance, when first manufactured and then as they age during use. When assembled into LED video screens without adequate compensation for this variability, the result is noticeable variations in brightness and color. After installation LED video screens degrade in appearance because LEDs drift in performance as they age. In addition, replacing modules in the field results in visible differences in appearance because the new modules do not match the rest of the screen. The effect of the LED video screen is non-uniform images, poor color reproduction, and module level patchiness – all of which fail to meet viewer (and advertiser) expectations of display quality. The Radiant Imaging Vision System provides specific solutions for optimizing the visual performance of an LED video screen at each step in its life cycle:· VisionCAL is Radiant Imaging’s proven LED screen correction system, previously offered under the name PM-LEDC. The VisionCAL system combines Radiant Imaging’s ProMetric Imaging Colorimeters for measuring the LED screen at a pixel level with VisionCAL software to produce correction coefficients for LED screens and panels in the factory or in the field. The correction parameters are used in the LED screen electronics to individually adjust each LED in the screen to achieve desired brightness and color uniformity, target color gamuts, and white point. VisionCAL is available in several configurations for LED manufacturing and on-site use at the sign location.· *NEW* VisionLINK is Radiant Imaging’s new rack mountable, in-line correction processor. Not all LED video screens, especially legacy systems, support the implementation of correction parameters. VisionLINK overcomes this by applying VisionCAL generated correction parameters in directly to a DVI video stream feeding the LED screen. VisionCAL directly interfaces with VisionLINK for correction coefficient management. The result is that even previously “uncorrectable” LED screens can be corrected! VisionLINK is currently entering initial field trials.· *NEW* VisionMATCH is Radiant Imaging’s new module matching device. VisionMATCH provides fast, accurate correction of LED module performance. When replacing a module in the field, VisionMATCH is used to adjust the correction coefficients of the new module so that it blends in smoothly with adjacent modules in the screen. VisionMATCH is currently entering field trials.· VisionTUNE is the new name for Radiant Imaging’s LED video screen measurement and correction services. Radiant provides consultation on screen performance, screen performance verification, on-site screen correction services, and annual correction maintenance. VisionTUNE services can be applied to any LED screen or panel – either by using the manufacturer’s video controller (if it exists) or by using VisionLINK. VisionTUNE services are individually tailored to meet the needs of the particular screen to be corrected, and can be used for both fixed and rental screens.“With continued growth in LED video display deployments, customer expectations for display quality have become increasingly rigorous,” said Ronald Rykowski, Radiant Imaging CEO and CTO. “To address this we have drawn on our years of experience improving the visual appearance of displays to develop a suite of tools that enable screen manufacturers, service technicians, and screen owners to ensure top quality visual performance throughout the life cycle of the LED video screen.”Both VisionLINK and VisionMATCH are being exhibited at Radiant Imaging’s booth (#2551) at InfoComm 2009 from 17 to 19 June 2009.
