May 4, 2009
Date Announced: 04 May 2009 SAN RAMON, CALIF. (May 4, 2009) – The EMerge Alliance – an open industry association promoting the rapid adoption of safe, low-voltage direct-current (DC) power distribution and use in commercial building interiors – today announced that several organizations have joined the coalition, bringing membership to a total of 40 organizations. [See the LEDs Magazine article on the Emerge Alliance here.]New Participating Members include Acuity Brands, Northwire and Tyco Electronics. Configura has joined the Alliance as a General Member and 3am Systems has joined at the Supporting level. The addition of these companies broadens and deepens the EMerge membership pool of leaders involved in the design, construction and management of commercial buildings. The Alliance also announced its first Liaison Members, which include BACnet International, the EnOcean Alliance and the ZigBee Alliance. Through Liaison Memberships, the Alliance will engage in collaborative dialogue with like-minded not-for-profit organizations to align common objectives with standards and practices that already exist in the marketplace. According to EMerge Alliance Chairman Brian Patterson, the growth in membership and significant progress in the development of the EMerge Standard brings the organization a step closer to its goal of increased flexibility, efficiency and sustainability in commercial buildings.“We are actively developing a global standard that integrates interior infrastructures, power, controls and a wide variety of peripheral devices, such as lighting, in a common platform,” said Patterson. “As we continue to grow our membership, adding leaders in these key segments and working with other like-minded alliances brings essential support and validation as we move closer to making the EMerge Standard a reality.”An application of this proposed standard will be on display at LIGHTFAIR® International in New York City, May 5-7, 2009. The presentation, which will take place at the booth of EMerge Founding Member OSRAM SYLVANIA, includes a working model of a ceiling-based low-voltage DC system and provides insight into the EMerge vision to bring sustainability and savings to commercial buildings. Other Alliance members exhibiting at the event include Acuity Brands Lighting, Crestron Electronics, Eden Park Illumination, EnOcean Alliance, Lighting Science Group, Sensor Switch, Tyco Electronics and WattStopper/Legrand.
